The Daily Soundtrack, a Last Hurrah

Well, this wasn’t really received as well as I’d hoped, and as with many recurring features it’s already seeming more like work than it should. I love music and would be willing to discuss it with you any time, but I think this will be the last playlist. Unless you want me to keep posting them, in which case just let me know in the comments. Thanks!

Free Verse Friday

Abrasive, cut like a diamond, flexing muscles imprinted like a brand on beef cattle

Stuffed like a sausage in its casing, linked to all the others, lined up for the slaughter

Cold, hard cash, frozen like tundra, judge, jury and executioner, you own your bliss

Your soul heavy, dark beams of light falling like Autumn leaves, the theater of your mind cold, all your heat dispersed in sheets

Sipping from the juice box, seal broken, excuses fabricated under the influence of electric pharmaceuticals

A national crisis, corporate controlled distribution of razor blades to slash brake lines

Listening to the clipping of fingernails, waiting for each successive CLICK to echo through my head, bile rising in my throat

Nothing works, the process grinds to a halt, anger bubbles, ripples to hold more guacamole dredged from the bottom of your alloy lined raincoat pockets

Mistakes made, ghosts in the snow, records spinning, give away all the sounds

Hollow eyes, pretending colors are following your written rhymes, trying to show signs of industry

Information sewn into the splitting sofa cushions, a sectional moving like a race car driver

Flames blooming after a laser precision strike, glowing like morning, time seems to stop, apartment walls giant and cavernous

Haiku Friday – 11/30

The month ends today.

Payday, Friday, a good day

to have a cold beer.

Brought to you by LouCeeL: Haiku Friday!

https://i0.wp.com/farm2.static.flickr.com/1047/1338959961_a93cf33414_o.jpg

I read a bit about Haiku today before I wrote this and while mine isn’t traditional in the sense of topic or theme (it’s usually Nature) it does hold true to the 5,7,5 format of the teikei or “fixed form” Haiku and I find it quite fitting.

It came to me suddenly as I realized I still have 4 hours to be in the office before my weekend actually starts AND that while yes today is payday I’ve likely already spent most of it on bills. Good time to drink indeed! I shall raise a glass or bottle to toast tonight, and I shall think of you all! Just kidding, I’ll probably forget by then. Just kidding, I’ll never forget! Wait, what was I talking about?

Fill in the Blank Friday II

For the second week in a row, it’s Fill in the Blank Friday! via Spabettie! Thanks to Kristina (@spabettie) for the inspiration and the fun list of blanks to fill in 🙂 Dispute any of my answers? Leave it in a comment!

1. My best quality is my loyalty to family and friends. If you’ve had my back then I have yours, pretty much forever.

2. One of my less flattering qualities is my vanity. At least in my opinion, I tend to care too much about how I look.

3. I’d rather be playing at the park or hiking a trail.

4. Something I have been challenged with lately is budgeting my money. I’m not a fan of working for commission, it’s very up and down which drives me crazy.

5. I am looking forward to delicious Thanksgiving dinner with my family, and spending the weekend at home with my girlfriend and my daughter.

6. A super random factoid about me is that I served a day as a Page in the Missouri State House of Representatives when I was in 4th grade.

7. I want to someday travel across the United States visiting all of the Major League Baseball stadiums.

Fill In The Blank Friday

This is a cool prompt I found (via @spabetti) and from Lauren and her blog: the little things we do

1.  I like   coffee, waking up without the alarm, and relaxing at home.
2.  A life goal of mine is  write and publish a novelMaking a bunch of money from it would be a nice bonus, but publishing at all would be a win.
3.  The last thing you would ever expect me to like (even though I secretly do) is   heavy metal. Some of it works for the gym or even just to thrash out some angst.
5. Most mornings you will find me awake too early getting ready to go to the office.
6. Right now I am super into blogging and social media.
7.  Right now I am super over  the election, and everything to do with the huge rift separating the GOP and the Democrats. Nothing is going to get done in this country if the two sides cannot work together.
